Mazda has updated the CX-30 for the upcoming model year with more power and enhanced fuel economy. Besides, the 2023 CX-30 adds more safety tech to comply with the new U.S. safety standards.
Under the hood is the old naturally aspirated 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine, but it now makes 5 hp extra to churn out a total of 191 hp (142 kW). The more power doesn’t affect the fuel efficiency. In fact, it is now boosted by 2 mpg for each EPA estimation. It means the city, highway, and combined economy all receive a 2 mpg boost courtesy of an upgraded cylinder-deactivation technology. The new EPA estimation for the naturally aspirated engine is 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined.
It is worth noting that only non-turbo models have got more power and better efficiency. The Turbo Premium and Turbo Premium Plus featuring Turbo four-banger have the same rating as the 2022 model.
The Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo four-cylinder mill can pump up to 250 hp (186 kW) and 320 pound-feet (434 Newton-meters) of torque using premium 93 octane fuel. The regular 87-octane fuel can only create 227 hp (169 kW) and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm).
Improving on the already impressive IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for the 2022 CX-30, the 2023 model year receives more safety features to fulfill the U.S. latest safety standards. The additions include rear side airbags, rear seat belt pre-tensioners, B and C-pillar upgrades, and a shin pad to front and rear door trims.
Mazda demands $22,950 at least for the 2.5 S trim, while the range-topping 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus with all the available features and a more robust turbo mill sets you back $35,400. These prices do not comprise the destination and handling fees.
