The 2025 GR86 has arrived, and Toyota has introduced several updates to its budget-friendly sports car. Engineers have refined the shock absorbers and electric power steering to enhance the rear-wheel-drive coupe’s performance. For manual gearbox models, the revised engine torque control simplifies blipping. Additionally, the accelerator pedal now delivers a more immediate response due to throttle control adjustments.

Joining the lineup is the Hakone Special Edition, featuring green paint, bronze 18-inch wheels, Brembo brakes, and Sachs shock absorbers. Inside, it boasts unique black and tan upholstery. Toyota plans to produce only 850 units when it launches in Fall. Pricing details will be announced later this year.

Japan will also receive a version of this trim, known as the Ridge Green Limited edition. Toyota will manufacture just 200 of these exclusive models for its home market.

For those preferring an automatic GR86, the model is now a bit more thrilling to drive. Toyota increased the engine-speed tolerance during downshifting and expanded the torque band for better performance. Additionally, the 2025 model includes new daytime running lights and a tire pressure warning system for the JDM version.

Toyota is currently accepting orders in Japan for the subtly updated GR86 ahead of its August 1 launch. For the Ridge Green Limited, the process is more complex. Due to anticipated high demand, a lottery system has been implemented. Enthusiasts can register their interest until July 28 at GR Garage locations across Japan. The fortunate winners will have to wait until October for delivery.

The base model GR86 starts at 3,518,000 yen, roughly $22,120. The Ridge Green Limited is pricier, costing 3,897,000 yen ($24,500) for the manual and 3,995,000 yen ($25,100) for the automatic.

As for the GR86 images featuring steel wheels, those depict the cup car designed for a dedicated racing series, competing directly with the updated Subaru BRZ cup car from earlier this year.
