Genesis has introduced an update for the G70 in South Korea, where it also offers a more sensible wagon model. Despite appearing largely unchanged for the latest model year, there have been a few alterations. On the exterior, the badge has been enhanced with an engraved pattern using the Guilloché decorative method. New color options include Kawah Blue and Bartna Grey, accompanied by 18- and 19-inch wheels.
Moving inside, the center console has received updates to the HVAC panel. This area now features fewer traditional controls, as their functions have been integrated into a touch panel. Even the base model now includes ventilated passenger seats, heated back seats, and a back-monitoring mirror. Other two-shade finishes available are Forest Blue/Vanilla Beige, Obsidian Black/Vanilla Beige, and Obsidian Black/Fog Gray.
The most significant change lies beneath the hood, as the turbocharged 2.0-litre gasoline engine has been replaced. From now on, the Genesis G70 will be equipped with a larger 2.5-litre unit in the home market. This new engine generates 300 horsepower, an increase of 48 hp compared to the current entry-level model in the United States. Torque is rated at 311 pound-feet (422 Newton meters), whereas the US version of the G70 currently produces 260 lb-ft (352 Nm).
It’s worth mentioning that the soon-to-be-discontinued Kia Stinger received the same 2.5-liter engine with identical output for the 2022 model year. The GV70, the G70’s crossover counterpart, is already available in the US with a larger engine. It is likely that the sedan will also adopt this more powerful unit, possibly as early as the 2024 model year.
Returning to Korea, the base G70 now comes standard with Brembo brakes in addition to the power boost. Customers can opt for the larger 3.3-litre V6 engine at an extra cost, which remains unchanged from before. However, the more powerful engine is exclusive to the sedan variant, while the wagon version is strictly offered with the four-cylinder engine.
The G70 is now on sale in Korea, with prices starting at 43.15 million won ($32,550) for the four-cylinder sedan and 45.11 million won ($34,000) for the corresponding wagon. The V6-powered sedan begins at a minimum of 48.05 million won ($36,200).
The current price of G70 in the UAE starts at AED 164,900 and tops out at AED 247,900.
