Jeep has finally confirmed that their first fully electric SUV will arrive this spring. The company also showcased the Jeep Wrangler EV concept through a teaser image on their new website “The Road Ahead.”
The good thing we have got from the EV image is that the battery-powered Wrangler does not lose its iconic looks, though it has totally different powertrain to carry along. To see the Wrangler EV in daylight, we have to wait for the Easter Jeep Safari in late March or early April. The SUV must hit the roads by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
Furthermore, a picture released by Jeep showing the EV’s underpinning tells us the electric Wrangler will feature a single electric motor setup, unlike dual motor configuration we see mostly in all-wheel-drive models. While not exact, we believe the EV will have three or four battery modules to propel the wheels, and it will definitely have a body-on-frame setup.
Other things we can get from the teaser include blue tow hooks in front, and probably a unique lighting system to separate it from its associates. However, we know nothing about the battery capacity, power output, or driving range. That said, one thing is sure, the Wrangler EV will be a competent off-roader.
More details will emerge as the Jeep Wrangler EV concept debuts this Spring. Stay tuned for updates!
