Last week, Kia unveiled the latest iteration of the K4, showcasing its exterior without divulging much else. However, at the 2024 New York Auto Show, Kia is offering insights into the upcoming 2025 K4 sedan, slated for release in the U.S. later this year.
The K4 will feature two engine options. Its base model boasts a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generating 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a continuously variable transmission. Alternatively, there’s an optional turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission equipped with paddle shifters. Enthusiasts may anticipate a potential GT variant in the future, possibly boasting even more power than its predecessor, the Forte GT, which offered 201 hp.
The latest compact sedan from the company supersedes the Forte, boasting even larger dimensions. Kia touts the K4 as the most spacious compact sedan in its category, measuring 185.4 inches long and 72.8 inches wide, surpassing the Forte’s 182.7 inches and 70.9 inches, respectively.
The increased dimensions translate into ample rear legroom at 38.0 inches and rear headroom at 37.3 inches, along with a generous 14.6 cubic feet of trunk space.
Kia will present the K4 in five trims: LX, LXS, EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo. The dashboard features a commanding 30-inch screen, complemented by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Additionally, over-the-air updates and Kia’s Digital Key 2.0 with Ultra Wideband support are available options.
You can get a Medium Gray interior for the LX, LSX, and EX models. Slate Green is offered for the EX variant, while the GT-Line offers Onyx and Off-White options. GT-Line cars come with heated front seats; ventilation and driver’s seat memory are add-ons. You can also upgrade to a Harman Kardon audio system.
The K4 showcases bold styling, featuring a fastback roof design dubbed “Opposites United.” It boasts a broad stance complemented by standard vertical LED lights inspired by the EV9. Kia discreetly placed the rear door handles in the C-pillar for a sleek look.
The GT model features distinct front and rear designs highlighted by glossy black accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, satin chrome beltline, and glossy black mirror caps, window trim, and side sills. Meanwhile, the GT Turbo variant boasts LED projection headlights, LED fog lights, and unique wheels. Both GT trims are equipped with multi-link rear suspensions.
Kia prioritizes safety for K4 occupants, incorporating a plethora of standard safety features including rear side airbags, lane-keep assist, forward collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, and more. Additionally, Kia plans to introduce upgraded forward collision warning for the GT Turbo model.
The starting price of the K4 is still undisclosed. The 2024 Kia Forte begins at $19,990, plus a $1,155 destination charge. It’s expected to increase slightly but needs to stay below the K5, which kicks off at $26,745 for 2024. Kia plans to unveil pricing and release dates as the launch approaches. The 2025 Kia K4 will hit dealerships in the latter half of 2024.
