Land Rover has been in the spotlight from the past couple of weeks, as the automaker first announced its electrification plan to introduce electric variants of all Land Rover vehicles from 2020. After that we heard about the announcement of Discovery SVX and now, reports suggest the plug-in hybrid Range Rover is cooking up at the automaker’s factories.
The Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Ralf Speth, has confirmed that a plug-in hybrid model will be arriving soon along with a PHEV model of the Range Rover Sport. The plug-in hybrid model will carry a new turbocharged 2.0-liter Ingenium four-cylinder unit accompanied by a lithium-ion battery pack. The power output details have not been announced officially, but rumors suggest it will generate 400 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft of torque. The electric driving range will be around 30 miles, according to European testing cycle.
We can expect the plug-in hybrid Range Rover to debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, it will go on sale sometime later next year. The automaker will reveal more information in October, prior to the official debut of the Range Rover. The same gas-electric powertrain will also be adopted by other Jaguar vehicles including the Jaguar XF.
