Debuted in 2017, Hyundai has revealed the second-generation Kona in three different powertrains and four models, each featuring slightly distinct styling. The automaker surprisingly first built the EV model and then used the same architecture to create internal combustion engine and hybrid models. There is also a sporty N-Line model for high-performance enthusiasts.
Speaking of the redesign, the front fascia gets a LED light bar, which stretches across the hood, and it differs for the EV and other models. The EV model has a pixelated lamp for distinction. The headlights are just below the light bar.
For a distinctive look, the ICE model has a rectangular opening in the lower area, while the N Line has a trapezoidal element. The EV features a pixel-pattern design reminiscent of Ioniq.
The side profile is pretty much the same, with only a slight difference. The hybrid and ICE models get body cladding on the fenders, while the EV and N-Line have this part in the body shade. The N Line also comes with a rear spoiler, silver side skirts, and optional black mirror caps and roof. The rear boasts an elongated LED light bar and taillights below it.
The 2024 Kona EV is 171.5 inches (4,355 millimeters) long, which makes it 5.9 inches lengthier than the previous model. The width grows by an inch while the wheelbase improves by 2.36 inches.
Hyundai showed us just one interior image and told us that the dashboard contains two 12.3-inch touchscreens – behind the steering wheel is a driver information display, and beside it is the infotainment display. The gearshift moved at the back of the steering wheel. We can also see two vents and HVAC controls. The second row has plenty of space with comfortable seating featuring Kona’s new design aesthetic.
Hyundai didn’t reveal the powertrain specs and pricing but promised to release more details in the coming months.
