The Volkswagen Atlas has undergone a transformation and comes with an array of new features. As part of its revamp for the 2024 model year, the three-row Atlas and its two-row Atlas Cross sibling are showcasing their newly updated appearances and advanced powertrain options at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.
The latest styling is evident right from the front, where larger LED headlights now encircle a grille that has ditched its faux chrome accents for a sleek black look. A striking light bar now extends across the hood, just above the illuminating VW logo, connecting seamlessly with the headlights, adding a new touch to the 2024 model.
The roof has been elevated with a slightly bigger spoiler at the back of both models, and a magnificent rear light bar stretches across the trunk lid, enhancing the look and feel of the Atlas and Atlas Cross. Only the base trim fails to feature this lighting fixture, settling for standard taillights at each corner.
For the new model year, the Volkswagen Atlas has received an upgrade in wheel design. Depending on the specifications chosen, the wheel sizes range from 18 to 20 inches, with the athletic R-Line flaunting the largest 21-inch aluminum alloys. The R-Line also boasts unique R-Line badging and glossy black accents around the exterior, making it stand out.
The interior of the 2024 Atlas has also been refined, with the dash and center console boasting a premium leatherette finish instead of the conventional hard plastic. The same material has been used for the front and rear door panels, lending a touch of sophistication to the interior. Additionally, the top-trim Atlas models offer quilted leather seats with a stylish diamond stitching pattern, elevating the comfort and style of the vehicle.
The new Volkswagen Atlas has received a technological upgrade. The outdated 10.3-inch unit has been replaced by a sleek 12.0-inch “floating” touchscreen, offering a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. Additionally, a new 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster sits conveniently ahead of the driver, providing real-time information at a glance.
Wireless connectivity has also been prioritized, with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now standard features across the entire lineup, offering seamless integration with your mobile device. Furthermore, the refreshed cabin boasts wireless charging capabilities, with a total of six USB-C ports and two USB-A ports, providing ample charging options for all passengers.
When it comes to safety, Volkswagen has made sure that its IQ.Drive driver assistance technology comes standard across the board, including features such as lane centering, lane-keep assist, and automatic braking. Adaptive cruise control and a head-up display remain add-ons, but with the standard safety features, the Atlas offers peace of mind while on the road.
The Volkswagen Atlas has undergone a significant transformation in terms of its powertrain for the 2024 model year. The previous VR6 engine option has been replaced by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, offering 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Despite the change, the Atlas maintains its towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, matching that of the former V6 engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the sole option, and front-wheel drive is standard, while the 4Motion all-wheel drive system is available for those seeking improved traction and stability.
The 2024 Atlas will be available at dealerships later in 2023, with pricing details expected to be announced closer to its on-sale date. Although the 2023 Atlas starts at $36,445, including the destination fee, the 2024 model will likely incur a slight price increase. The 2023 Atlas Cross, on the other hand, has a starting price of $35,755.
