    May 27th 2016     johny

The 2016 Audi A4 was officially unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and was launched for the middle-eastern markets at the 2016 Qatar Motor Show in January. It has won ‘Car of the year award’ from ‘What Car?’ along with 19 ‘best buy’ categories. The Audi A4 2016 is available here in three different models; 30 TFSI, 40 TFSI and the range-topping 45 TFSI. We test drove the Audi A4 45 TFSI with Quattro all-wheel drive and below is our 2016 Audi A4 test drive / 2016 Audi A4 review.

Findings of 2016 Audi A4 Test Drive

Walk Around

The 2016 A4 does not offer much surprises in terms of exterior design. However, you can feast your eyes with an expressive front grille and sporty Matrix LED headlights. Sharp lines can be seen going all the way from the front towards the rear giving the A4 an elegant persona. The daytime running lights and 18-inch alloy wheels further complement the overall athletic design of the A4.

Cockpit Impression

The interior is plain and simple, yet luxurious. Thanks to the 25 mm increase in the wheelbase, the back seating area is more spacious now and can easily accommodate 3 adults. The LED lighting control can be set depending on your mood for a comfortable long drive. The cockpit is ergonomically designed and the placement of MMI control is excellent; you can comfortably control the features of the infotainment system through it. If you don’t find the standard infotainment system attractive, opt for the more advanced Audi virtual cockpit.

Engine Specifications of 2016 Audi A4 45 TFSI

The A4 2016 is accessible in three engine options:

  • 4-litre TFSI engine with 150 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque
  • 2.0-litre TFSI engine with 190 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque
  • 2.0-litre TFSI engine with 253 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque (the one we drove)

Driving Dynamics

I started with driving straight at a normal speed on a flat road and found the ride stability exceptional. I couldn’t notice any unnecessary jerks or rough noises. The cabin is very quiet ensuring a pleasurable driving experience. The standard suspension system and the 7-speed tronic transmission provide a firm handling around the corners. Since this was a Quattro all-wheel drive variant, I went a little off-road and drove it on rough landscapes. To my surprise, the performance was above par.

I was able to go from zero to 100 km/h in about 6.4 seconds and reached to 250 km/h. The average fuel economy I noted during my test drive was 6.7 litres per 100 kilometers.

Technological Overview

The Audi 2016 A4 comes equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, which enhance your driving experience and makes it more fun and engaging. The front dash features a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, 10-speaker sound system and a CD player, along with a tri-zone climate control and wireless charging facility. The functions of the infotainment system can be easily controlled via MMI control knob near the gearbox. Upgrade your package to get access to more modern amenities including voice control, WiFi hotspot and smartphone integration.

Safety Features of Audi A4

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has awarded the 2016 Audi A4 with a 5 Star Rating, thanks to its class leading safety features which include anti-theft alarm, SRS airbags, 4-wheel ABS, brake assist, electronic stability control, traction control, blind spot monitoring and rear view monitor.

Dislike

I could not find anything to dislike but Audi virtual cockpit is a remarkable innovation, however it costs extra. I wish it was available as a standard feature.

Verdict

The 2016 Audi A4 basic variant starts at only AED 138,000, while the price of A4 45 TFSI is AED 178,000. Do not deem it expensive considering it is a luxury sedan with modern features. The A4 excels in both performance and interior facilities. I highly recommend you to take a test drive and get to know more about this vehicle.
