The 2017 Mercedes Benz G Class prototype has been spotted in camouflage. The spy shots reveal very little changes in the boxy SUV.

The Mercedes Benz G Class has been in production since 1979 giving it a distinction of being the longest existing SUV range of Mercedes. The camouflaged 2017 Mercedes Benz G Class prototype follows the same classic design, though it’s considerably wider, hinting at more changes in the cabin.

The spy shots of the interior show an analog instrument panel for now. However, it is expected that the German automaker will introduce some modern features in the new model. The rounded air vents are a big hint towards current Mercedes styling trends.

The 2017 Mercedes Benz G Class will likely get a separate platform, which will help bring its weight down from the current 400 kg and help improve its cornering abilities.

Production will take place in Magna in Graz, Austria, (same as predecessors), and the classic SUV will probably be released as a 2018 model by late 2017.
