The 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT was first shown in concept form in 2016 and now the production model has finally been displayed ahead of the official debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

Under the hood, the 2018 Volkswagen Passat GT carries a 3.6-liter VR6 engine which is paired to a remarkable six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine delivers 280 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The official word suggests that the Passat GT offers an EPA estimated fuel economy of 19/28 mpg (city/highway).

Coming to the visual updates, since the 2018 Passat GT is based on the R-Line trim, it has the same bumper as is available in the latter. Up front, the Passat GT features a honeycomb grille with surrounding red accent lines and exclusive GT badging. The wheels are 19-inch ‘Tornado’, whereas at the back, a black spoiler, darkened LED taillights, dual exhaust tips, and black bumper trim further add to the overall aggressive persona of the Volkswagen Passat GT.

On the inside, the Passat GT boasts blackened center console, leather upholstery, headliner and GT badging.

The tech equipment includes a 6.3-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Expect the VW Passat GT to arrive at the dealerships next spring with a starting price tag of around $29,940.
