The American automaker is planning to introduce the sixth-generation 2020 Ford Explorer ahead of the upcoming North American International Auto Show in a private event at the company-owned Ford Field stadium in Detroit. The auto show starts on January 12th for media.
Ford did not reveal which variant they will showcase at the event, however, we can guess the performance-focused ST variant and the Platinum variant, both sporting quad exhausts. We have already seen multiple spy shots of both these trim levels along with XLT variant, so we can safely assume the production version at the event will be any of these.
The 2020 Ford Explorer uses the same platform (CD6) as available in 2020 Lincoln Aviator, which made its first public appearance at the 2018 LA Auto Show. As the new Aviator will carry a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine generating 400 hp, we assume the same power output in the Explorer ST. Reportedly, the power will go to the rear wheels with all-wheel-drive coming as an option.
