Ford revealed a new 7.3L V8 engine for its 2020 Ford Super Duty line at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show but did not disclose its performance figures. However, the details are here now! The power unit offers 430 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 475 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, which is the top-of-the-line in this segment. The new engine boasts an overhead-valve design, a variable-displacement oil pump, big bearings, a steel crankshaft, and piston cooling jets for enhanced temperature administration.

The 2020 Ford Super Duty trucks featuring the new engine will offer two variable outputs. At the lower end of the spectrum, the engine will create 350 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. It will be available on F-450 chassis cab, F-550, the new F-600, F-650, and F-750 Medium Duty trucks, in addition to the F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis units and the updated E-Series. The 430-hp 7.3L V8 will power the F-250 and F-350 trucks.

“The 7.3-liter is designed for maximum durability in the harshest environments given that our customers live and work in these conditions every day,” Joel Beltramo, Ford manager for gas V8 engines, mentions. “This engine has the largest displacement in its class and is designed to provide benefits in key areas like power, durability, ease of maintenance, and total operating costs.”

All the versions carrying the 7.3L V8 will feature a new 10-speed automatic transmission excluding the F-650 and F-750, which will receive power through a 6-speed heavy-duty auto.
