2020 Hyundai Accent Gets News Engine and Transmission

The Korean automaker has introduced the 2020 Hyundai Accent featuring a new engine and transmission to make it more fuel efficient. Under the hood, the sedan now has a 1.6-liter Smartstream four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing, dual-port injection, and an updated thermal management module. The new engine creates 120 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque.

Another unique addition is Hyundai’s Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The automaker produced it to defeat the CVT, thus uses a chain belt instead of a push belt for better gains. It is the first of its kind transmission in the compact car segment.

While the addition of new powertrain might not look big on the table, it does offer better fuel efficiency. The 2020 Hyundai Accent with manual transmission improves by one mpg while the automatic transmission makes it even more efficient with a jump of 4 mpg (36 mpg now).

Furthermore, the new updates don’t unsettle the pricing column of the new sedan. The base SE grade with the manual gearbox costs only $16,125 while adding the IVT makes it $1,200 costlier. The range-topping Limited grade is available at $20,230. All prices are inclusive of $930. Here in the UAE, the 2019 Accent starts at AED 38,900 and goes as high as AED 53,900.

Surprisingly, Hyundai did not make cosmetic changes in the new Accent. Perhaps, they feel people prefer better fuel economy over the looks and comfort. If you are looking for a sedan on a budget, the Accent isn’t a wrong choice with the new fuel economy figures.
