Kia introduced the EV6 about two weeks ago but denied sharing any technical information. The words are out now, together with some new images of the GT-Line and top-of-the-line EV6 GT. Seeing the performance figures, especially of the GT, you might not believe it is a crossover.
EV6 GT
Starting with the EV6 GT, it comes equipped with two electric motors creating 576 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and an enormous instant torque of 546 pound-feet (740 Newton-meters). This all-wheel-drive model is capable of accelerating to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 162 mph (260 km/h).
Bear in mind that Kia says these are “preliminary development targets,” meaning they plan to achieve these performance figures, and we are sure they have all the expertise to accomplish that.
The GT is the only model in the range featuring an electronic limited-slip differential for improved handling in different conditions. When other models can be had with a 58-kWh battery, the GT exclusively boasts the biggest 77.4-kWh pack.
If you seek to enjoy more range, compensating the performance, you can have the bigger battery mated to a single-motor rear-wheel drivetrain. It would give you over 316 miles (510 kilometers) range per WLTP between charges.
The company allows buyers a choice between rear- and all-wheel drive plus the smaller or bigger battery on all variants except the range-topper GT. The sporty-appearing GT-Line is also accessible in varied arrangements, thus giving buyers more choices.
Recharging
Kia says the 2022 EV6 will juice up from 10 to 80 percent in only 18 minutes, where 62 miles (100 kilometers) of range can be added in four and a half minutes for an RWD model with the largest battery pack. Similar to its Hyundai sibling, the Ioniq 5, the EV6 can power external devices. Kia claims the battery can power a 55-inch Television and an AC simultaneously for more than a day. On the other hand, the EV6 can be used to recharge another car’s battery.
Dimensions
Built on the E-GMP platform, the new EV6 electric crossover is 4,680 millimeters (184.2 inches) long, 1,880 mm (74 in) wide, and 1,550 mm (61 in) tall, with a wheelbase rated at 2,900 mm (114.1 in).
The GT Line and GT models are a little lengthier and broader, with the flagship GT standing a little lower to the surface. With a similar footprint to the Ioniq 5, Kia’s electric crossover actually has a 100 mm shorter wheelbase than the Ioniq 5.
Trunk Volume
As far as practicality is concerned, the EV6 offers 520 liters (18.3 cubic feet) or 1,300 liters (45.9 cu ft) of boot space with the rear seats folded. It also has a frunk in front, providing a 52-liter volume on two-wheel-drive models and 20 liters on all-wheel-drive. The US versions might come with only 20-liters frunk only, just like the Ioniq 5.
Production & Availability
The EV6 will be built in South Korea and exported to international markets in the second half of this year. Customers can reserve the new EV6 online in some countries.
