2022 Toyota Corolla Cross Breaks Cover In Japan With A Little Different Design

If anyone doubts Toyota Corolla’s popularity, they should reconsider their thoughts. The Corolla nameplate is most famous around the globe if we weigh up all the models Toyota produced under this umbrella. So far, the automaker has sold more than 50 million Corollas, and this number will grow quicker than before, as we welcome the new 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross. As evident from the name, it is a crossover, and it was first introduced in July 2020 for Thailand and the US in 2021.

While the design of the Corolla Cross was pretty much the same for Thailand and the US markets, the new Japanese Cross features a little different styling, particularly on the front.

Besides the new headlight design, the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross for Japan has a little (fake) grille insert atop the reserved Corolla emblem. Toyota also employs this for the standard hatchback, sedan, and wagon in Japan. The central grille goes down and appears marginally wider than the ones we see in the US.

Examining the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross (JDM) side profile, we find no difference except the alloy wheel styling. At the back, we see the taillights are slightly different, and so is the LED design.

On the inside, we find little to no difference compared to the global Corolla Cross. Normally, we only get exterior changes for a model available in multiple regions across the world.

The US market didn’t get the hybrid Corolla Cross model. However, in Japan, the automaker has armed the Cross Hybrid with an electrified 1.8-liter petrol engine and an elective all-wheel-drive configuration. Toyota has also introduced E-Four variants for the Cross that come equipped with double-wishbone suspension instead of a torsion beam setup.

Toyota markets the 2022 Corolla Cross with a price tag of 1,999,000 yen (around $18,150 at present exchange rates) for the standard petrol-powered model. The price jumps to 3,199,000 yen ($29,100) for the AWD hybrid in the top-of-the-line “Z” model. Those who want their 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross to look different can opt for the Modellista package, which is accessible for all trims from day one.

The Modellista Pack adds a more assertive front bumper, a noticeable splitter, solid side skirts, body-colored fenders, and so on. The Japanese tuner also offers different decorations and lets you choose from 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs. Modellista’s changes go beyond the exterior upgrades; we will be able to find a few small alternations inside as well.

The JDM-spec 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross will be available in Japan from today. You can have one outright with cash or get assistance from the Kinto One subscription service. They offer this crossover for 27,390 yen ($250) per month, with taxes and insurance charges comprised.
