The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale will start below $40,000 with the maximum price in the low $50,000 range, we learned through Motor1.
The automaker will offer it in three variants in America, starting with the Sprint boasting a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder generating 256 hp (191 kW) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque. The engine mates to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.
The mid-level Ti comes equipped with the same 2.0-litre turbo that powers the Sprint but you can also have it in plug-in hybrid powertrain. The electrified Ti uses a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder mating to a six-speed automatic and a rear-axle-mounted electric motor pumping out 272 hp (203 kW) combined.
The PHEV’s motor employs a 15.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, with a capability to deliver 30 miles (48 kilometers) all-electric range on a full charge. It will take the battery 2.5 hours to juice itself up fully on a level 2 charger. The range-topping Veloce is accessible in only the PHEV powertrain.
Speaking of standard features, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale boasts full LED headlights, high-tech safety facilities, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen.
At below $40,000 price point, the Tonale is competitive in the segment where the 2022 Audi Q3 demands $37,595 and the base 2022 BMW X1 costs $38,395.
Expect the 2023 Tonale at the U.S. showrooms in the first quarter of next year.
