2023 Lexus RX Gets A New Look, A New PHEV Model, And An F Sport Hybrid Grade

    June 1st 2022     Suhail Ajmal

The Japanese luxury automaker has revealed the 2023 Lexus RX with a new look, more tech, and a plug-in hybrid model. The premium crossover is accessible in four powertrains (mostly hybrid) and will hit the dealerships in late 2022.

The fifth-generation RX is built on the new GA-K platform that allowed it to drop up to 198 pounds (89.81 kilograms) compared to the fourth generation. The wheelbase increases by 2.36 inches (5.99 centimeters), while the rear overhang shortens by 2.36 inches. It means the total length remains the same as the previous generation. However, the lengthier wheelbase allows extra space for occupants.

While the new Lexus RX will offer buyers a choice of four powertrains, the automaker offered us information about three of them. We will get to know more about the 450h+ plug-in hybrid later. Here are the specifications of the three available powertrains.

The new RX 500h F Sport Performance model features extra amenities such as six-piston brake calipers, 21-inch wheels, leather upholstery, and of course the F Sport branding.

Exterior

The new 2023 RX gives buyers a choice of six variants – Standard, Premium, Premium+, Luxury, F Sport Handling, and F Sport Performance. The available colour options would include Ultra White, Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, Iridium, Caviar, Matador Red Mica, Copper Crest, Nori Green Pearl, Nightfall Mica, and Grecian Water.

Regarding the exterior design, the fifth-generation boasts a new form of spindle grille with dipped, diamond-cut splits in the higher part. The 500h F Sport Performance comes with an altered mesh design.

The side profile features a mounting arching carved section that goes towards the rear fenders. The roof gets a floating C-pillar, as we have seen previously, while the rear gets full-width taillights.

Interior

The interior positions the new infotainment display a little lower than before where it aligns with the instrument cluster. The centre display can be as big as 14 inches and buyers can opt for a panorama glass roof and a head-up display by paying extra.

The six upholstery color options include Macadamia, Black, Birch, Palomino, Peppercorn, and Rioja Red. The four optional trim designs are Black Cascade, Ash Bamboo, Black Open Pore, and Dark Graphite Aluminum.

Safety

The automaker has equipped the new 2023 RX with the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. The advanced system brings a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, intersection support with motorcycle detection, dynamic radar cruise control with curve speed management, lane departure alert with steering assist, and an emergency driving stop system. The available Advanced Park system extends the provision for parallel parking.

Price

Lexus will reveal the price of the new RX closer to its launch. For comparison, we can tell the 2022 RX starts at AED 245,000 here in the UAE. The new crossover model will certainly be a little costlier than before.
