The Mitsubishi Outlander has been a steadfast companion on the roads for 40 years, and to celebrate this milestone, the automaker has unleashed a special edition model – the Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition. This celebratory model boasts a revamped look that exudes elegance and sophistication.

Step inside the Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition, and you’ll be greeted with a luxurious interior featuring black-and-tan door inserts, a sleek black headliner, and semi-aniline leather-appointed seat surfaces that envelop you in comfort. The standard features include a panoramic sunroof that floods the cabin with natural light, a 10.8-inch head-up display that keeps important information in your line of sight, center console illumination that adds a touch of elegance, and a Bose sound system that immerses you in high-quality audio.

Each Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition is finished in a one-of-a-kind two-tone black-and-bronze color scheme that exudes luxury and exclusivity. The exterior is adorned with subtle yet striking 40th-anniversary badges, a subtle nod to the special status of this limited-edition SUV. The two-tone shade arrangement is a masterclass in automotive design, with the black creating a sleek and sophisticated look while the bronze adds a touch of warmth and elegance.

Under the hood, the Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition is powered by Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control all-wheel-drive system, which ensures a smooth and stable drive in any weather conditions. Customers can choose between the standard Outlander or the plug-in hybrid version, both of which come with the all-wheel-drive system as standard.

Mitsubishi breathed new life into the Outlander for the 2022 model year, giving it a fierce new look that exudes power and strength. The exterior design is bold and imposing, while the revamped cabin is a showcase of modern technology and luxury. Under the hood, the gas version boasts a 181-horsepower (135-kilowatt) 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, a powerhouse that propels the Outlander forward with ease. And for those who want to tread more gently on the earth, the Outlander PHEV pairs a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to deliver a total of 248 hp (184 kW) and an all-electric range of 38 miles.

Mark Chaffin, the captain at the helm of Mitsubishi Motors North America, declared that the anniversary edition models are a celebration of the brand’s rich heritage and serve as a “mighty leap towards the next 40 years of triumph in the United States.”

In 1981, Mitsubishi officially began selling vehicles under its own name in the United States, though it had been doing so with the help of Chrysler Corporation as rebadged Dodge and Plymouth cars earlier. The automaker set up its roots in Fountain, California, with just 70 dealers in its network. As the company grew, it shifted its headquarters to Cypress, California, before ultimately relocating to Franklin, Tennessee in 2019. By the time of its cross-country move, Mitsubishi had sold an impressive 5.5 million vehicles with the help of around 330 dealerships.

The Outlander 40th Anniversary Edition comes with a starting price of $41,340, whereas the Outlander PHEV model can be yours for $51,340 (inclusive of the $1,345 destination fee).
