Making a grand appearance at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show is the all-new GMC Acadia for 2024. This SUV has undergone significant growth compared to its predecessor, offering increased interior space for passengers and cargo, along with upgraded technology and enhanced power under the hood.
While the 2024 GMC Acadia introduces several changes, fans of General Motors will find some elements familiar. It shares its foundation with the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse, which was unveiled in July. Both models feature a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder mill churning out 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque for all Acadia trims. This single engine option powers either the front or all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. At present, there are no signs of electrification, be it fully electric or hybrid.
The most noteworthy aspect of the next-gen Acadia may be its expanded dimensions. It boasts a 10.6-inch increase in length and a 3.6-inch height boost compared to the 2023 model, bringing it remarkably close in size to its robust GMC Yukon sibling. Inside the cabin, this translates to significant space gains, with an 80 percent increase in storage behind the third-row seat and a 36 percent boost in the second row, according to GMC.
Front-seat occupants enjoy a digital layout distinct from the new Traverse. The driver’s seat is equipped with an 11-inch diagonal display, while a 15-inch portrait-oriented center touchscreen graces the middle. This configuration is standard across the Acadia lineup, featuring customizable screens complemented by tactile controls such as steering wheel switches and a bank of buttons beneath the center screen.
Regarding technology, the 2024 GMC Acadia comes with integrated Google services and various apps, including navigation. Notably absent is any mention of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, which GM had previously announced for removal from its EV lineup but retained for combustion-powered vehicles. However, the availability of these features for the new Acadia remains uncertain, and we await GMC’s response for clarification.
In the realm of technology, select 2024 Acadia trims offer Super Cruise with trailering assistance and auto lane-change capabilities. The vehicle provides up to nine camera views and includes an impressive array of 20 standard driver assistance and safety features, encompassing seat belt and rear seat reminders, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, and more.
The upscale AT4 and Denali trims make a return for 2024. The off-road-focused AT4 receives a retuned suspension, an additional inch of ground clearance, a unique Active Torque Control AWD system, and distinctive red tow hooks with a special front fascia, among other enhancements. Denali remains the pinnacle of luxury for the Acadia, boasting new 22-inch wheels, exclusive exterior trim, laser-etched wood accents in the interior, premium leather, and a spacious sunroof. Additionally, Denali offers the Bose 16-speaker stereo with active noise-cancelling technology.
As for pricing, GMC has not yet disclosed the details. For reference, the 2023 GMC Acadia starts at $36,800 (AED 143,400 in the UAE) in its base SLE trim, with the AT4 at $43,400, and the top-tier 2023 GMC Acadia Denali commencing at $48,600 (excluding destination charges). Pricing for the 2024 Acadia will be announced closer to their anticipated release early next year.
