Aston Martin has officially inaugurated its new facility in St. Athan, Wales, on December 6 to set everything for the production of DBX crossover. The production unit was unveiled by the Company CEO Andy Palmer and the First Minister of Wales, giving jobs to 600 people at the start.
“St Athan is a critical step in delivering our new car, DBX, which will be built in the new facility. The opening of St Athan is a hugely important milestone in the company’s growth plan and integral to our ambitions as a global luxury brand with a presence in all major sectors of the market,” said Palmer at the unveiling ceremony.
Plans to start the St. Athan facility was made in 2016 when the company decided to transform this old Royal Air Force Base. With its completion, the automaker plans to start production in the 2nd quarter of next year. The first DBX crossover model to come out of the assembly lines will be the V8 generating 542 horsepower and 516 pound-feet. The V12 will be made available later down the road.
The engine of the DBX crossover will be paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive layout. With the help of this powertrain, the crossover will be able to hit 96 kilometers per hour in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 291 kph. The crossover has undergone very tough testing so that the automaker could produce the most efficient SUV for the roads.
