Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Hits 60mph in 2.59s, a little shy of claimed Acceleration

No doubt, the W16 unit fixed in the Chiron Pur Sport is a powerful machine that permits the hypercar to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds. The 1,500 horsepower engine from Bugatti makes the Pur Sport one of the fastest accelerating production cars in the world, even though its weight matches almost to a mid-size SUV.

Even when the hypercar isn’t able to hit the claimed acceleration figure, we are sure it can’t go astray much under a hard rush. Recently, Carwow put the Pur Sport on a test track to find out how quickly it goes from zero to 60 mph. Surprisingly, in the first attempt, the reviewer Mat Watson could hit the mark in 2.86 seconds. The car didn’t accelerate smoothly due to a lack of power delivery and we also witnessed slight wheelspin.

For the second attempt, Mat kept the launch control but this time he set the drive mode to its sportiest setting. However, the hypercar still couldn’t improve much as the exclusive speed gauging device recorded 2.85-second time. Mat geared up for the third try and witnessed a real advancement this time. The speed monster hit the target in 2.59s, which is still short of Bugatti’s claim.

Most of the time, supercars manage to squeeze more power from the vehicle to deliver quicker than claimed acceleration, but it couldn’t happen with the Chiron Pur Sport. The biggest reason for the hypercar from Molhesim to not match the 2.3 seconds acceleration time could be cold or worn-out tires.

If we look at the spec sheet, we find the Pur Sport is 43 mph slower than the regular Chiron that has a maximum speed of 218 mph. Similarly, this particular version of Chiron is 86 mph slower than the untamed Super Sport 300+.  While it is less capable in terms of top speed, it is quicker in acceleration delivering 0 to 60 mph run in two-tenths of a second faster than the standard Chiron.

Speaking of speed numbers, it goes from 0 to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 5.9 seconds, down by 0.6s, whereas reaching 186 mph (300 km/h) takes 12.4 seconds. That is a good 1.2 swifter than the regular Chiron.

Bugatti made acceleration enhancements by lowering the weight to 110 pounds, curtailing the transmission’s gear ratios by eighteen per cent, and tweaking the mill to offer extra torque earlier. Besides these changes, it can produce 110 pounds more downforce while cruising at 218 mph compared to the standard Chiron while sporting exclusive Michelin tires.

Ultimately, 0 to 60 in 2.59 seconds isn’t bad, is it? You won’t find many combustion engine cars that can match this acceleration number. Even some hyper electric vehicles like the Rimac Nevera can’t beat that.
