While it is best to find the rust before it spreads, most car owners know about the rust formation when they see the tell-tale signs. Today, we will discuss how to prevent rust formation on your car, so you can drive it for years to come without any issues.

Inspect your Vehicle

First off, you need to inspect your vehicle’s wells and bumpers to find if rust is developing around these areas. Mostly, rust forms where body components meet, so you should inspect the door frame and the trunk. Another place we need to examine is the bottom of your vehicle.

Wash your Vehicle

Dirt, sediments, bird droppings, gasoline spills, etc., can contribute to rust. Therefore, it is wise to wash your vehicle once a week to avoid it. Make sure you clean the exterior as well as the underside of the car with a hose. While washing the bottom of the vehicle, mix baking soda with automotive soap to neutralize road salt. Make sure you rinse the vehicle thoroughly to maximize the life of your paint.

Wax Your Vehicle

Wax does not only give your vehicle a beautiful shine it also guards the car paint against waning and damage. Experts recommend that you wax your car twice a year. It will put an extra layer of safety against rust. Furthermore, it acts as a shield against direct sunlight.

Dry Up the Car’s Interior

If your car has just endured the flooding, make sure you dry up all the areas inside the vehicle. It will need a lot of sunshine and proper cleaning to prevent rust formation. You may have to remove seats for direct sunlight. For regular upkeep of the interior and avoid rust development, make sure you never put wet floor mats inside the vehicle.
