Hennessey introduced the Venom F5 Roadster in 2019, and took almost 3 years to make it ready for public viewing. While you can see the pictures here, the car was displayed for attendees yesterday at The Quail – A Motorsports Gathering – during Monterey Car Week.
Hennessey says the Venom F5 Roadster will be “the world’s fastest and most powerful convertible,” thanks to the mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V8 pumping out a whopping 1,817 horsepower (1,355 kilowatts) and 1,193 pound-feet (1,617 Newton-meters) of torque. The power goes to the wheels via a seven-speed, single-clutch semi-automatic transmission.
Hennessey believes the F5 Roadster will be able to break 300 miles per hour (483 kilometers per hour) speed barrier. The previous fast speed record is held by another convertible from Hennessey. The Venom GT Spyder became the fastest convertible after hitting 265.6 mile per hour (427.4 kilometres per hour).
Looks-wise, the new Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster appears similar to its coupe sibling. The company provides a one-piece, removable carbon-fibre roof panel that owners can attach to the vehicle through robust latches. It is fully insulated with Alcantara headliner and weighs only 18 pounds. The panel accompanies a Merino wool travel bag as well as a pedestal to accommodate the roof panel in the garage.
Seeing the vehicle from the rear, we can find a new tempered glass window showcasing the powerplant. The company says the glass is made of materials designed for jet engines with the capability to endure temperatures over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit (540 degrees Celsius).
Hennessey did well to keep the weight as low as possible. Currently, it stands under 3,100 pounds, which is just 100 pounds more than the coupe. The coupe has a dry weight of 2,998 pounds (1,360 kilograms). Normally, convertibles are a lot heavier than their coupe counterparts due to the removable roof mechanism and extra strengthening the roof needs.
The American carmaker and tuner plan to build only 30 examples of the Venom F5 Roadster against the 24 units they made for the coupe. The development will start before the end of 2022, with prices starting at a staggering $3 million each. For analysis, the hardtop version came with a $2.1 million price tag.
