Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX Concept Unveiled With An Exceptional 1,000km Range

The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept has finally shown its face to the world after a series of teasers. Looking at the vehicle, it truly shows the zenith of the German automaker’s craftsmanship.

Perhaps, the most practical thing about this electric vehicle is its 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) drive range between charges. A full charge up would be adequate to travel from Berlin to Paris without needing a recharge. On the other hand, an average US citizen will just need to recharge it two times in a month, the automaker claims.

While the range figures are outstanding, we really do not know the battery capacity. Mercedes said it would be less than 100 kilowatt-hours. However, the automaker did provide us with some remarkable details about the battery; it retains 50 per cent less volume and is 30 per cent lighter than the pack we find in the EQS. The battery can endure a maximum of 900 volts and weighs approximately 1,091 pounds (495 kilograms) along with the frame.

Speaking of power output, it just carries one electric motor and creates 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts). Mercedes says the powertrain efficiency at the wheels is an impressive 95 per cent. Another great feature available in the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept is a 117-cell solar panel fixed on the roof that creates power for the additional electric systems such as the blower for the HVAC system, lights, and infotainment system. The solar panel is attached to a distinct lithium-iron-phosphate battery for energy storage that the driver could use to add 15.53 miles (25 kilometers) to the range.

While the photos are not obvious to reveal the car’s compact dimensions, it is actually compact. It is about 182.3 inches (463 centimetres) long with a wheelbase of 110.2 inches (280 centimetres). For analysis, the new C-Class stretches its footprints to 187 inches (475 centimeters long) and has a wheelbase of 112.8-inch (286.51 centimetres).

It is not only a long sedan but is also pretty lightweight by EV standards. Mercedes says it tips the scale at 3,858 pounds (1,750 kilograms), which is a little over the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C300 Sedan weight of 3,693 pounds (1,675 kilograms).

Another surprising fact about the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX concept is its drag coefficient of only 0.18. The smooth body possesses a teardrop profile with a very low frontal section. The EV sedan has a slippery surface and lots of tech features to make it as aerodynamic as possible.

Besides, the EV possesses active cooling shutters in the front grille and a rear diffuser at the rear that deploys during extreme runs. Bridgestone has created the ultra-low-rolling-resistance tires specifically for this EV with sleekly designed sidewalls.

Peeking inside, we find a one-piece display of 47.5 inches (120.6 centimeters) stretching from A-pillar to A-pillar with an 8k resolution featuring a navigation system with 3d graphics. Mercedes used plenty of sustainable materials to craft the interior such as Biosteel silk-like fiber, vegan leather curated from mushrooms, animal-free leather from pulverized cactus fibers, and so on.

Mercedes still didn’t reveal its plans to transform this concept into a production vehicle. However, we do believe most of the high-end tech will shape future Mercedes cars.
